TULSA, Okla. — The Friends of the Tulsa City-County Libraries sponsored the 2026 Tulsa Area Great Decisions kickoff event by the Foreign Policy Association on Sunday.
Hosted in the Aaronson Auditorium of the Central Library in downtown Tulsa, the kick off event aimed to educate community members on Great Decisions and world events and to have a nonpartisan discussion over foreign policy.
“These are nonpartisan discussions about foreign policy and world affairs,” said Tara Grotzkey with the Tulsa City-County Library. “It’s a good place to come and just learn.”
Great Decisions is the largest civic foreign policy education program in the United States. The program provides insight on global affairs.
Sunday’s event at Central Library offered information on 2026 discussion topics and featured a keynote address from guest speaker Elissa Stiles, senior lead attorney at Rivas & Associates and chair of the Oklahoma Bar Association Immigration Section.
The keynote address titled ‘Understanding Asylum in the U.S.’ did just that — helped Tulsans better understand how asylum and immigration work in America.
“Our interest in the Great Decisions program has definitely increased recently. To prepare, we purchased a lot of extra discussion booklets,” said Grotzkey. “Anyone who participates in a discussion group can get a discussion booklet.”
