Biography
Alvaro Abrego-Salazar is an immigration attorney licensed to practice law in California, with over a decade of experience advocating for immigrant communities and individuals with limited resources. He earned his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in 2014 and focuses his practice on immigration law and criminal post-conviction relief.
Throughout his career, Mr. Abrego-Salazar has worked primarily in the nonprofit sector, gaining extensive experience with organizations such as Casa Cornelia Law Center, Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), and Jacksonville Area Legal Aid. He began his legal career at a boutique immigration firm in Clovis, California, where he developed a strong foundation in immigration advocacy. His work has consistently centered on representing vulnerable populations, including children and families.
As an immigrant from a family of immigrants, Mr. Abrego-Salazar brings a deeply personal perspective to his practice. Having firsthand experience navigating the immigration system without adequate legal support, he chose this field to become the advocate his own family once needed. He prioritizes building meaningful connections with his clients, adapting his advocacy style to each individual’s circumstances, and empowering clients to take ownership of their legal process.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Abrego-Salazar is actively involved in community service. He serves on the Board of Directors and as legal advisor for Estrellita de Belén, a nonprofit organization that coordinates the delivery of medical and essential supplies to children suffering from cardiomyopathy in Venezuela. He has also participated in community outreach initiatives, including Know Your Rights presentations, and has spoken to college classes about immigration law, nonprofit advocacy, and legal internship programs. He previously supervised law school interns as they worked on active cases through a structured internship program.
Mr. Abrego-Salazar is fluent in Spanish and English and is committed to making the legal process accessible and understandable for his clients. He strives to provide not only answers, but clear and comprehensive explanations of the legal process and applicable law, allowing clients to make informed decisions that align with both their legal and personal goals.
Outside of his legal work, Mr. Abrego-Salazar has practiced yoga for over 10 years and is passionate about making yoga more accessible to individuals with mobility challenges. He aspires to become a certified yoga instructor, further reflecting his commitment to inclusivity, balance, and well-being.
